Jharkhand JSSC-CGL and TDPL Exams Canceled Following Student Protests
Jharkhand government cancels JSSC-CGL and TDPL exams after prolonged student protests demanding fairness and transparency.

Student Protests Lead to Cancellation of JSSC-CGL and TDPL Exams in Jharkhand
The long-standing student movement regarding the conduct of competitive examinations in Jharkhand has finally yielded results. The state government, in a significant decision on Monday, announced the cancellation of the CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exam to be conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). Additionally, examinations organized through TDPL (The Technology Development and Promotion Limited) have also been nullified.
The decision was announced following a crucial meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. This move is being viewed as an acceptance of a key demand by the protesting candidates. News of the government's decision brought a wave of joy among the students protesting at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi.
The candidates had been protesting for a considerable period, raising concerns over alleged irregularities in recruitment exams, lack of transparency, and various questions surrounding the examination process. Their primary demands included the cancellation of the controversial exams, a fair investigation into the entire matter, and comprehensive reforms in the recruitment system.
Government Orders Inquiry into JSSC and TDPL Operations
The government has not limited its action to merely canceling the examinations. It has also assured steps towards reviewing and investigating the recruitment examination system. In this regard, an announcement has been made to form a high-level committee to review the functioning of JSSC and JPSC (Jharkhand Public Service Commission), and the process of conducting competitive examinations. This committee will be headed by senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal.
The primary objective of this committee will be to suggest improvements in the examination system and enhance transparency. Prior to this, the Jharkhand CID (Criminal Investigation Department) had also taken action at the JSSC office due to allegations of irregularities, and commission officials were questioned. Extensive verification of documents and the examination process related to candidates selected for the CGL exam was underway, forming a major aspect of this investigation.
As TDPL was entrusted with the responsibility of conducting various JSSC examinations, the agency's role also came under scrutiny. The CID's investigation also encompassed the role of TDPL in the examination process.
Student Leader Devendra Nath Mahto's Pivotal Role
The role of student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has been extremely prominent throughout the entire sequence of student protests. He had been continuously agitating, demanding a fair investigation into alleged discrepancies in the examination process and concrete action in the interest of students. He had also begun an indefinite hunger strike to press his demands, which led to his health deteriorating and requiring hospitalization.
Mahto has strongly welcomed the government's decision to cancel the JSSC-CGL and TDPL related examinations, calling it a significant achievement of the students' long struggle. Following the government's decision, news also emerged about his preparations to end his fast. However, the eyes of the students involved in the movement are now fixed on the fairness of the upcoming investigation and actual reforms in the recruitment process.
What's Next for Jharkhand's Recruitment Exams?
While the examinations have been canceled, several other important demands from the students remain. Protesters are demanding the assurance of transparency in recruitment exams, strict action against those responsible, improvement in the examination conduct system, and the establishment of a robust mechanism to prevent the recurrence of paper leaks or other types of irregularities in the future. Some protesters have even been demanding a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry into the entire matter.
Following this significant decision by the government, the biggest challenge will be to implement the new examination process with complete fairness and reliability. This decision, taken after a long and arduous student movement, is considered a significant step towards comprehensive reform in Jharkhand's recruitment examination system. However, protesting students are also keeping a close watch on the government's next steps and the findings of the high-level investigation report.
