Israel Offers Compensation Following Qatari Security Officer’s Death in Doha Strike

Israel has signaled its willingness to provide compensation to the family of a Qatari security officer killed during Israel’s strike on Hamas leaders in Doha, according to the Kan public broadcaster, citing an Israeli official.

The announcement comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued an apology to Qatar over the incident, though it remains unclear when Israel conveyed its offer of compensation.

Such a move would not be without precedent. In 2016, Israel paid Turkey $20 million in compensation for the 2010 storming of an aid ship, as part of a deal to restore diplomatic ties following a six-year rift.

Reports indicate that senior Israeli security officials were caught off guard by Netanyahu’s apology and had not been briefed in advance. The Prime Minister’s Office has not responded to requests for comment on the matter.
