IPL 2026: Tim Southee Appointed Bowling Coach of Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Tim Southee as their bowling coach for IPL 2026. The former New Zealand captain, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, has recently been part of England’s Test setup as a bowling consultant.

Southee becomes a key addition to KKR’s revamped coaching structure, led by head coach Abhishek Nayar, with Shane Watson also joining earlier as assistant coach.

Southee, 36, shares a long connection with the franchise, having played for KKR in 2021, 2022 and 2023. One of New Zealand’s greatest pacers, he retired with:

• 700+ international wickets

• 100+ Test caps

• Key roles in NZ’s run to the 2019 ODI World Cup final and 2021 World Test Championship win

KKR CEO Venky Mysore said the franchise is “delighted” to have Southee return, praising his experience, technical knowledge, and ability to mentor young bowlers.

Southee called the role a “natural extension” of his bond with the team, saying:
