Interstate ATM Fraud Gang Busted

Bhind Police have apprehended three members of an interstate gang specializing in ATM fraud. The gang was arrested for technically manipulating ATM machines to defraud bank customers. The police have recovered a significant haul of goods valued at Rs 36 lakh, including 94 ATM cards, a luxury car, and various equipment.

Complaint Leads to Arrests

The operation was initiated following a complaint filed on September 29, 2026, by a customer who reported fraud at an Indian State Bank ATM located at Gorami Tiraha. The complainant stated that despite a successful transaction, the ATM did not dispense the requested cash.

Investigation and Apprehension

Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Verma, a dedicated team was formed to investigate the case. Utilizing technical evidence and an informant network, the police zeroed in on the suspects. On October 2, 2026, three youths were apprehended near Gorami Tiraha after being found loitering suspiciously.

Gang Members Identified

During interrogation, the arrested individuals identified themselves as Sathyarth from Ayodhya, Satyam Singh from Kanpur, and Abhijeet Singh from Hardoi. All three hail from Uttar Pradesh. They admitted to using Google Maps to identify ATMs situated along highways.

Method of Operation

The gang employed a modus operandi where they would block the cash dispensing slot of the ATM using an aluminum plate and black tape. This would trap the money dispensed, making customers believe the machine was malfunctioning while the gang pocketed the cash. The accused revealed they have been active since 2018 and have previously been imprisoned for similar offenses in Dehradun and Rudrapur in Uttarakhand.

Seized Items and Further Action

The police seized seven aluminum plates, tape, cutters, four mobile phones, 94 ATM cards, and a Tata Harrier car from the arrested individuals. Mehgaon Police Station Inspector Ravindra Sharma and his team played a crucial role in this operation. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 318(4) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), and further legal proceedings are underway.
