The Cliff News | Indore | August 11, 2026 – The Principal Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Jail Department, Shri Mukesh Chand Gupta, conducted a surprise inspection today of the District Jail and Open Jail in Indore. During the visit, he meticulously reviewed the overall jail arrangements, facilities provided to inmates, and ongoing work in various departments.
During the inspection, Principal Secretary Shri Gupta observed the Control Room, inmate meeting rooms, warrant section, arrangements for inmate appearances via video conferencing, and the Legal Aid branch. With the aim of making these crucial processes more effective and transparent in the future, he issued immediate directives for their digitalization. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of promptly completing pending and incomplete entries in the E-Prisons system.
Detailed Inspection of Jail Premises and Facilities
Shri Gupta also inspected the jail's kitchen and library, where he gathered information about the prevailing conditions. He toured the Open Jail premises as well as the women's ward. He engaged in direct dialogue with the female inmates and their children, inquiring about their needs and the facilities being provided.
He provided necessary guidance to the officials for improving these arrangements. The Principal Secretary emphasized ensuring the maximum use of digital systems for inmate records and processes within the jails. He underscored the need for continuous monitoring of jail security, administrative efficiency, transparency, and the facilities provided to inmates.
Emphasis on Digital Systems and Security
During this surprise inspection, the Superintendent of Central Jail Indore, Shri Dinesh Nargave, provided Shri Gupta with a detailed overview of the jail's current systems and ongoing activities. The Superintendent of District Jail Indore, Shri Jawahar Mandloi, Deputy Superintendent Shri Rakesh Mohan Upadhyay, and other officials and staff from the Jail Department were also present with the Principal Secretary.
