Passenger vehicle (PV) sales in India surged to an all-time high of 557,000 units in October 2025, marking an 11% year-on-year increase, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
FADA attributed the record-breaking performance to GST 2.0 reforms, festive season momentum, and robust rural demand.
Segment Performance

Two-wheelers: Sales jumped 52% to a record 3.15 million units (from 2.1 million a year earlier).

Passenger vehicles: 557,000 units, up 11% year-on-year.

Commercial vehicles: Up 18%, aided by freight and infrastructure activity.

Three-wheelers: Up 5%.

Tractors: Up 14%.

Construction equipment: Down 30% due to project delays and financing issues.
Overall automobile retail sales across all categories rose 40.5% to 4.02 million units, compared to 2.87 million in October 2024.
Festive Boost and Rural Revival
“The introduction of GST 2.0 proved transformational — lowering small-car GST rates made vehicle ownership more attainable,” said C. S. Vigneshwar, FADA President.
He noted that the 42-day festive period from Durga Puja to Chhath Puja delivered the highest-ever growth across categories, with rural India emerging as the key growth driver.
Rural PV sales grew three times faster than urban sales, while two-wheeler growth in rural areas was nearly double that of urban markets.

PV inventory levels fell to 53–55 days in October from around 60 days in September, suggesting improved supply alignment.
