Indian Student from Haryana Fatally Stabbed in UK; Family Appeals for MEA Assistance

A 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana was fatally stabbed in Worcester, United Kingdom, prompting his family to seek urgent help from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to repatriate his body.

The victim, Vijay Kumar Sheoran, hailed from Jagrambass village in Charkhi Dadri district. He had moved to the UK earlier this year to pursue higher studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol, after resigning from his government job two years ago to pursue academic opportunities abroad.

Details of the Incident

According to West Mercia Police, Vijay was found with severe stab injuries around 4:15 a.m. on November 25 on Barbourne Road. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that day.

So far, five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently out on bail. A sixth suspect, previously detained, has been released without further action. Police have appealed to the public for any witnesses as the investigation continues.

Family Appeals for Government Support

Back in Haryana, Vijay’s elder brother, Ravi Kumar, wrote to the MEA stating that the family is struggling to navigate the complex legal procedures, foreign formalities, and financial requirements involved in repatriating the body.

“We appeal to the government to help us so that his last rites can be held here,” Ravi told PTI.

Local MLA Sunil Sangwan has also approached External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, urging swift government intervention as UK authorities continue to investigate the murder.

As the investigation unfolds abroad, Vijay’s family awaits government assistance to bring him home and perform his final rites in India.
