Indian Ship Attacked Off Yemen Coast; 14 Sailors Rescued

THE CLIFF NEWS | August 4, 2026 A commercial vessel flying the Indian flag, the MSV Faize Noore Oliya, was attacked on August 4, 2026, in the Red Sea near the coast of Yemen. The attack resulted in the vessel sinking, however, all 14 sailors on board were safely rescued.

This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of international maritime routes. The attack occurred approximately 13 nautical miles south of Yemen's Al Hudaydah port. The vessel sustained severe damage, causing it to sink into the sea.

The ship's crew consisted of 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni national. Upon receiving notification of the incident, the Yemeni Coast Guard and Navy immediately launched a joint rescue operation. All sailors were safely evacuated and transported to the port of Mocha.

India Condemns Attack

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly condemned the attack on the Indian-flagged commercial vessel, describing it as a grave threat to international maritime trade. The ministry stated that the continuous targeting of merchant ships on international maritime routes is a cause for concern.

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh is in constant contact with Yemeni authorities, closely monitoring the safety, medical assistance, and other necessary arrangements for the crew. The MEA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of Indian seafarers.
