Indian National Arrested in Bangkok for Threatening Passersby with Pistol-Shaped Lighter

An Indian man was arrested on Monday afternoon in Bangkok’s Siam Square after he was seen threatening pedestrians with a pistol-shaped lighter, authorities said. The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, drew widespread attention online.

The man has been identified as Sahil Ram Thadani, 41, a former director of three now-defunct companies in India.

Incident Caught on Camera

A video of the incident shows Thadani dancing on the street and verbally abusing passersby, while pointing the pistol-shaped lighter at them. In the latter half of the clip, he is seen sitting on the ground as security guards seize the lighter.

Despite repeated requests from the guards to stand up, Thadani remained seated, leading them to drag him off the pavement. The man can be heard crying, asking for the police to be called, and later apologizing for his actions.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4 PM in front of Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square Soi 6, Pathum Wan district. Police were called to the scene shortly afterward.

Thadani was taken to Pathum Wan police station and charged with threatening behaviour and causing a public disturbance. Authorities indicated that his erratic actions were believed to be caused by hallucinations from cannabis ingestion.
