India-Singapore Cooperation: Focus on Semiconductors, Digitalization, and Green Economy
India and Singapore agree to bolster cooperation in emerging sectors like semiconductors, digitalization, and the green economy to strengthen strategic ties.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership
India and Singapore have agreed to enhance cooperation in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, digitalization, and the green economy, reinforcing their strategic, economic, and technical partnership. This decision was made during the fourth edition of the 'India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable' (ISMR) held in Singapore.
Senior ministers from both nations reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and discussed new avenues for future collaboration. The Indian delegation was led by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada.
Singapore's delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam. According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, ministers reviewed the progress of the 'India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' (CSP) across six key pillars: Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalization, Healthcare and Medicine, Skills Development, and Sustainability.
Exploring New Avenues for Collaboration
Given the continuous growth in bilateral cooperation, ministers deliberated on initiatives in new and emerging areas. These include the green economy, establishment of industrial parks, food security, digital connectivity, fintech, semiconductors, and green shipping. These sectors have been identified as having significant potential for deepening collaboration.
Ministers also expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved under the ISMR. Key advancements include a notable increase in UPI-PayNow cross-border transactions, the implementation of a pilot for registering Indian generic drugs in Singapore, and the export of fruits such as litchis, mangoes, cherries, and plums from India to Singapore.
Furthermore, approvals granted by the Singapore Food Agency to Indian establishments for exporting processed poultry products to Singapore, and the development of the National Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in Chennai, were highlighted as significant progress indicators.
Agreements on Food Security and Maritime Heritage
To promote cooperation in food security, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Singapore Food Agency. This MoU will facilitate mutual trade in agricultural and food products.
Similarly, an MoU was exchanged between India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Singapore's Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth for cooperation in the field of maritime heritage. This agreement will provide a robust framework for collaboration in this area.
Bilateral Meetings Between Ministers
Alongside the high-level meeting, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held separate bilateral meetings with Singapore's Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam and his counterpart Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan. These discussions covered various aspects of bilateral relations in detail.
Dr. Jaishankar, along with Dr. Balakrishnan, also laid the foundation stone for the new Chancery-cum-Residential Complex of the Indian High Commission in Singapore, symbolizing the enduring ties between the two nations.
