India Clinch T20 Series 2–1 After Rain Washes Out Final Match in Brisbane

Brisbane: India secured a 2–1 series victory over Australia after the fifth and final T20 international at the Gabba was washed out due to heavy rain and lightning. The sold-out crowd will receive full refunds as the match did not reach the six-over mark required for a result.

Before the weather interruption, India had raced to 52 without loss in 4.5 overs, with Shubman Gill (29 off 13) and Abhishek Sharma (23 off 13) making the most of Australia’s sloppy fielding. Abhishek, who finished the series with 163 runs, expressed his delight, saying, “We had a plan and we executed it really well.”

It was the second abandoned match of the series, following the washed-out opener in Canberra.

Australian captain Mitch Marsh acknowledged India’s superiority: “India won the games when it mattered. There were a lot of positives and learnings for us heading into a World Cup year.”

Despite the result, the series provided key insights for both sides ahead of the T20 World Cup in February–March 2026, with Nathan Ellis emerging as the leading wicket-taker (9 wickets at 12.77) and India’s spin trio proving decisive in the fourth match at Carrara.
