Pact Signed for 'Turathi' Center to Empower Palestinian Women

In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations between India and Palestine, India's Representative in Palestine, Mahima Sikand, and Palestine's Minister of National Economy, Engineer Mohammed Al-Amour, have signed a revised protocol for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct the 'Turathi' India-Palestine Center. This agreement is a key initiative aimed at economically empowering Palestinian women and local entrepreneurs.

Funded by the Government of India with an investment of USD 5 million (approximately INR 41 crore), the project will serve as a national center for the development and marketing of Palestinian heritage projects. According to information shared by the Indian Representative Office in Palestine on 'X', this MoU will facilitate the implementation of the second and third phases of 'Turathi'.

Economic Empowerment and Capacity Building

The primary objective of this significant development project, located in Ramallah, is to empower Palestinian women and local entrepreneurs by providing technical assistance, vocational training, capacity building, and improved market access. This center will not only foster their economic self-reliance but also assist them in developing their ventures and establishing a presence in the global market.

During the signing ceremony, Minister Al-Amour commended India's cooperation for this vital economic and cultural initiative. He also briefed the representative on the Ministry's national reform efforts. Indian Representative Sikand reiterated India's unwavering and continuous support for the Palestinian people and leadership. She emphasized that the 'Turathi' Center will play a crucial role in building the capacity of Palestinian women.

India's Long-Term Commitment

India has long been a strong advocate for the 'Two-State Solution' for Palestine. India has consistently voiced its support for Palestine's sovereignty on various international forums, while also providing ongoing technical and humanitarian assistance for health, education, and infrastructure development. Development projects like the 'Turathi' Center are a testament to India's persistent and long-term commitment to the Palestinian people. This initiative will further deepen cultural exchange and economic cooperation between the two nations.
