IMD Issues Severe Alert: Heavy Rainfall, Storms Expected in 18 States Within 12 Hours

IMD Forecast: Widespread Adverse Weather Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across 18 states within the next 12 hours. According to the weather department's latest forecast, many states in North, East, and Central India are expected to experience extremely adverse weather on July 26th.

Winds are predicted to reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour in several regions, with hailstorms also possible in some locations. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall, storms, and lightning in a total of 18 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam. Wind speeds in many of these affected areas could reach 70 to 80 kilometers per hour.

Weather Warning for Delhi and NCR

The weather department has also issued a warning for the National Capital, Delhi. The forecast indicates cloudy skies throughout the day with the possibility of heavy rainfall in several parts of the city. Wind speeds in Delhi are estimated to be between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. The maximum temperature in the capital is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature ranging between 25-26 degrees Celsius.

Alerts for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

The weather department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and strong winds in various districts of Uttar Pradesh. Prominent among these are Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Bahraich, Saharanpur, Barabanki, Hardoi, Raebareli, Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, and Jhansi.

Similarly, extremely adverse weather is anticipated in Bihar. In districts such as Patna, Gaya, Rohtas, Nawada, Arwal, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Buxar, and Bhojpur, heavy rainfall accompanied by winds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour are expected.

Rainfall and Landslide Risk in Hilly Regions

Several districts in Uttarakhand face the risk of landslides in addition to heavy rainfall. This warning is particularly critical for hilly districts like Nainital, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Haridwar, and Almora. Wind speeds here could reach up to 60 to 70 kilometers per hour.

The weather department has also issued an alert for Himachal Pradesh. Warnings for heavy rainfall and strong winds have been issued for Kullu, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Solan districts, in addition to the capital Shimla. Residents are urged to exercise caution.
