Police Crack Down on Illegal Firecracker Trade

In a significant crackdown on the illegal sale of firecrackers ahead of upcoming festivals, the Bareilly police have seized contraband worth ₹5 lakh. The operation was conducted in the Faridpur police station area.

Major Raid Yields Substantial Seizure

Acting on a tip-off received on October 16, 2026, a police team raided a shop located on Bisalpur Road. They recovered 260 kilograms of illegal firecrackers, estimated to be worth approximately ₹5 lakh. The shop's owner, 52-year-old Gangaram Gupta, was apprehended at the scene.

Investigation Underway Following Arrest

The raid was carried out under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya, under the leadership of Superintendent of Police South Anshika Verma, and supervised by Circle Officer Sandeep Singh. The accused, a resident of Mohalla Para, was unable to produce any valid license or necessary permits for storing the large quantity of firecrackers.

Legal Action Initiated

Gupta admitted to possessing a retail license for firecrackers last year, but its validity had expired. Despite this, he continued to stockpile a substantial amount without renewal. Consequently, the Faridpur police have registered a case against him under Section 5/9(B) of the Explosives Act (Crime Number 789/2026).

Broader Investigation Planned

The seized firecrackers have been taken into police custody. The operation involved several police personnel, including Station House Officer Inspector Amit Pandey, Sub-Inspectors Jasbir and Tarun, and Head Constable Shamsher. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover any other individuals involved in this illegal trade, ensuring adherence to all legal procedures.
