Espionage Network Busted

A civilian employee at an Indian Air Force (IAF) station has been apprehended for allegedly leaking classified military information to Pakistani handlers. Investigators believe this arrest has uncovered a widespread espionage network operating within India.

The arrest was executed by Rajasthan Intelligence, following a months-long investigation that began with a separate detention earlier in January 2026.

The Investigation Unfolds

Additional Director General of Police Intelligence Prafull Kumar stated that the case originated in January 2026 with the arrest of Jhabara Ram, a resident of Jaisalmer.

During questioning, Ram implicated another suspect who maintained regular contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives. This lead pointed investigators to Sumit Kumar.

Accused Worked at Assam Air Force Station

Sumit Kumar, 36, originally from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, held the position of Multi-Tasking Staff at Air Force Station Chabua in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Investigators allege that he exploited his position to access and transmit confidential IAF information to Pakistani handlers via social media platforms.

Joint Operation Leads to Arrest

In a coordinated effort, Rajasthan Intelligence and Air Force Intelligence apprehended Kumar from Chabua and transported him to Jaipur for interrogation.

Officials stated, “The accused had been in contact with Pakistani intelligence since 2023 and was sharing sensitive information in exchange for money.”

Sensitive Details Leaked

Interrogation revealed that Kumar allegedly divulged critical details about Air Force installations, including:

  • Air Force Station Chabua
  • Air Force Station Nal in Bikaner

The leaked information included the locations of fighter aircraft, missile systems, and confidential details about officers and personnel.

Investigators also discovered that he facilitated the creation of social media accounts for Pakistani handlers using mobile numbers registered in his name.

Case Filed Under Official Secrets Act

Kumar was arrested on March 22 in connection with a case registered at the Special Police Station in Jaipur.

The charges fall under the provisions of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and the BNS Act, 2023.

Officials assert that the case indicates a larger, Pakistan-supported espionage network, and further investigations are underway to identify additional links and operatives.

What to Watch Next

The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the espionage network and identify all individuals involved. Further arrests and revelations are expected as authorities delve deeper into the case.
