Modern Farming Techniques Boost Farmer's Income in Chanchowra
CHANCHOWRA | October 4, 2026 – In the village of Lalpuria within the Chanchowra development block of Madhya Pradesh, a local farmer has found remarkable success by adopting modern agricultural techniques for hybrid chili cultivation, moving away from traditional farming methods.
Farmer Mahesh Prajapati cultivated the Syngenta-285 hybrid chili variety on approximately one acre of land, employing advanced methods such as drip irrigation and mulching. The innovative agricultural model was inspected and praised by Collector Kishor Kanyal as part of the Chief Minister Jan Vishwas Campaign.
According to Mahesh Prajapati, he shifted from growing traditional crops like soybean and maize, planting the chili seedlings on July 1, 2026. He planted six thousand saplings at a spacing of 60 x 45 centimeters. The total investment for this cultivation, including fertilizers and other equipment, has been around ₹30,000. With an estimated yield of 160 quintals, Prajapati anticipates a net profit of up to ₹4 lakh, a significant increase compared to the ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 typically earned from traditional crops.
Dual Benefits of Modern Technology: Increased Yield and Water Conservation
The use of modern techniques like drip irrigation and mulching has played a crucial role in weed management, thereby reducing labor costs. Simultaneously, providing plants with a balanced amount of moisture has aided in their healthy development.
Collector Kishor Kanyal commended Mahesh Prajapati for this successful experiment and encouraged other farmers to adopt horticultural crops and modern farming methods. He emphasized that the correct application of technology not only enhances production but also significantly improves crop quality.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amit Soni and other administrative officials were also present during the visit. Mahesh Prajapati plans to expand his cultivation of vegetables alongside this advanced technology in the future to further increase his income. This initiative is proving to be a source of inspiration for other farmers in the region.
