What the allegation says
According to the woman, who is reportedly associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, police personnel forcibly removed her clothes while taking her into custody. The arrest took place within the limits of Keshwapur Police Station in Hubballi, following complaints from local residents.
The police action was linked to a clash during mapping for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise on January 1. The woman was among those named in the complaints, officials said.
Police version of events
On January 7, Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar publicly rejected the allegation. He stated that no woman constable disrobed the accused during the arrest.
According to the Commissioner, the woman allegedly attacked woman constables and later removed her clothes herself inside the police vehicle. He added that officers, along with local residents, immediately arranged clothes to cover her.
Officials stressed that the police action followed standard procedure and said the video circulating online does not capture the full sequence of events.
