Houthis Claim Aramco Strike Amid Yemen Fighting Flare-Up

The Cliff News | 4 October 2026

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have announced a significant military operation, claiming they struck an Aramco facility in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, using ballistic missiles and drones. The assertion comes as fierce fighting escalates between the Iran-aligned group and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces.

The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, stated on X on Saturday that the attacks were “precise and direct” and resulted in the outbreak of fires at the targeted site. Images circulating showed a large plume of smoke and flames rising near an Aramco facility south of Riyadh on Saturday.

Coalition Dismisses Houthi Claims

However, the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government, swiftly countered the Houthi narrative. Turki al-Maliki, the coalition’s spokesman, described the rebel claims of targeting Riyadh as “misleading” in statements carried by Saudi media later on Saturday.

Early Sunday morning, the coalition reported conducting 97 “precise targeting operations” against Houthi reinforcements. These operations were focused on the Tor al-Baha front and the Taiz axis, employing a range of military assets including warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, and snipers.

Yemeni Government Reports Heavy Houthi Losses

In tandem with the coalition’s announcement, Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nazili, spokesman for the Yemeni government forces, detailed the impact of these operations. He stated that the attacks targeted at least 260 Houthi fighters and led to the destruction or disabling of 44 military vehicles.

The intensified military activity underscores the volatile situation in Yemen, where the conflict has been ongoing for years. The Houthi claims, if corroborated, represent a significant escalation, directly impacting a vital Saudi economic asset within the Kingdom’s capital.
