  • Why it matters: This served as the final bilateral series before the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 starts.

  • Who is affected: The Indian women's national cricket team and captain Harmanpreet Kaur as they build momentum for the global tournament.

England Clinch Series in Taunton Decider

India posted 180/5 after being put in to bat first in the high-stakes series decider. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur anchored the innings with an unbeaten 56, while Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with 32 and 29 runs respectively.

England's bowling attack, led by Lauren Bell's figures of 2/36 in her 4 overs, applied crucial pressure during the death overs to restrict India from accelerating.

In reply, England chased down the 181-run target in 18.3 overs. Despite slumping to 38/3, a match-winning 137-run partnership between Alice Capsey (82) and Heather Knight (70*) guided the hosts to victory.

Kaur Focuses on Positives Ahead of World Cup

Reflecting on the loss, captain Harmanpreet Kaur mentioned that the squad was well within the game but failed to get the breakthrough when needed.

Despite the series defeat, Kaur emphasized that the team has extracted multiple positives ahead of the upcoming ICC tournament.

"For us it was a case of getting one more wicket. We were in the game, but unfortunately we couldn't [break the stand]. Lot of positives, except for the wicket we were looking for, going forward to the World Cup."

Finalizing the World Cup Squad Combinations

The captain reassured fans that the team management is clear on their preferred playing eleven, although they remain open to adjustments.

India plans to give opportunities to talented squad members who are currently on the bench during their upcoming warm-up fixtures.

"We are pretty clear, still have two more practice games before WC, we can think about other combinations. We have very good players who are sitting out and will have chances, but we are pretty clear on the XI going forward."

What to Watch Next

India is scheduled to play practice matches against West Indies and England to test their final combinations. The squad will then gear up for their opening match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 14, following the tournament's grand launch on June 12.
