Call for Industrial Revival and Job Creation in Gwalior-Chambal

A strong voice has once again been raised regarding the long-standing closure of industrial units, widespread unemployment, and industrial backwardness in the Gwalior-Chambal region. Through a public dialogue, Advocate Dinesh Sikarwar has urged the government, administration, and local representatives to place job creation and industrial development at the highest priority of their political agendas.

Advocate Sikarwar emphasized that the industrial problems of Gwalior-Chambal are not limited to a few factory closures but have a direct and severe impact on the livelihoods of thousands of families, the future of youth, and the local economy. He recalled how the region's employment crisis has continuously deepened since the closure of industrial establishments that once provided jobs to a large number of people.

Historical Industrial Identity and Present Challenges

Citing examples of prominent industrial areas including MDS Cement, industrial units in Banmore, JC Mill Gwalior, Kailaras Sugar Mill, and the Sitapur Industrial Area, Sikarwar stated that the rich history of these establishments proves the immense potential for industrial activities and employment that has always existed in Gwalior-Chambal. He questioned how this potential can be revived in line with the needs of the new era.

He argued why industrial revival should not be the highest priority when the region's youth are compelled to migrate to other cities and states in search of employment, farmers and laborers struggle for their basic livelihood, and a large number of families face economic hardships. According to Advocate Sikarwar, the responsibility of public representatives elected by the people in a democracy cannot be limited to reaching out to the public only during elections. There is a natural expectation of accountability from them regarding the overall development, employment opportunities, education, industry, and economic progress of their region.

Yardstick of Gandhian Development and Public Interest

In his appeal, Advocate Sikarwar referenced Mahatma Gandhi's ideals, defining the true measure of development as the positive change in the lives of the last person in society. He questioned whether the current development process has reached the home of that family whose livelihood once depended on the sound of a factory whistle.

In his view, industrial development means more than just announcing large investments or new projects. Its true essence lies in providing sustainable employment to local youth, livelihood security to laborers, better markets for farmers, and economic opportunities for small business owners. Sikarwar clarified that his aim is not to oppose any individual, political party, or institution. He expressed the expectation that the government and administration conduct a thorough study of the current status of closed industrial units and prepare a concrete action plan based on their viability, assets, employment generation capacity, and revival potential. Alongside this, focus should also be placed on strengthening essential infrastructure, smooth transportation systems, uninterrupted power supply, land availability, and other necessary arrangements to attract new investments.

In the context of Gen-Z, the role of youth was highlighted as extremely important in this initiative. Sikarwar believes that the new generation is not just looking for jobs but possesses immense potential to create employment through entrepreneurship, new technology, startups, and innovative industries. For this, it is necessary to create a conducive environment in the region where local youth can find opportunities on their own land.

He expressed confidence that if the industrial base in Gwalior-Chambal is revived, its benefits will not be limited to employment alone but will give new momentum to the entire local economy, including transportation, trade, education, housing, small industries, and the service sector.

Through his appeal, Advocate Sikarwar posed fundamental questions to public representatives and policymakers: What are the concrete plans for the revival of closed industries?
