Chaos erupted at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (Babarpur) in Varanasi on Sunday morning when a passenger's firearm discharged unexpectedly during a security check. The unforeseen incident left two female screeners working at the airport's security checkpoint injured.

The injured personnel were immediately transported by ambulance to New Lakshmi Trauma Centre in Harhua, where they are currently receiving treatment. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM on Sunday in relation to flight number IX-1810, bound for Mumbai.

Details of the Incident

According to sources, a passenger had declared their weapon prior to traveling with their wife. While this declared firearm was undergoing inspection in the airport's security screening area as per regulations, it suddenly discharged. The resulting shot struck two female screeners present at the scene.

Immediately following the incident, the terminal building experienced a brief period of panic. Airport security officials and staff quickly attended to the injured and arranged for their immediate medical attention.

Injured Personnel and Investigation

Sources indicate that the injured personnel have been identified as Suman Kumari and Rohit Raj. However, official detailed information regarding their precise roles and the severity of their injuries has not yet been released.
