Guna MLA Demands Cash-Based Fertiliser Sales for Defaulter Farmers

Ensuring Fertiliser Availability for Rabi Season

To ensure the availability of fertilisers before the Rabi season sowing begins, Guna MLA Panna Lal Shakya has written to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. He has demanded that fertilisers be made available to defaulting farmers at primary agricultural credit cooperative societies on a cash payment basis.

Addressing Farmer Hardships

MLA Shakya highlighted in his letter that under current rules, many farmers are unable to obtain fertilisers on credit due to outstanding dues at cooperative societies. This causes them significant difficulties at the crucial sowing time, forcing them to struggle for fertilisers.

Proposal for Farmer Relief

The MLA argued that allowing cooperative societies to provide fertilisers to defaulting farmers upon cash deposit would resolve their immediate problems. He appealed to the Chief Minister to issue swift and necessary directives to the Agriculture and Cooperation Department for the broader interest of farmers and to ensure smooth Rabi season sowing.

Broader Impact of the Proposal

This initiative aims to prevent farmers from facing fertiliser shortages and assist them in timely sowing. If accepted, this demand would provide significant relief to thousands of farmers across the state, especially during the peak demand for fertilisers at the start of the Rabi season. Currently, many defaulter farmers are forced to buy fertilisers at higher market rates or delay sowing due to unavailability, impacting crop production.

MLA Shakya's step will relieve farmers of financial burden and time constraints. Receiving fertilisers on cash payment will allow farmers to purchase according to their needs, ensuring sowing is not disrupted. This proposal can also be a step towards making farmers self-reliant, as they will have the opportunity to pay their dues and obtain fertilisers.
