Grand Matki Phod Competition on Janmashtami in Bhind Draws Massive Crowd

Bhind, September 4, 2026 - On the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the Municipal Council of Bhind organized a grand Matki Phod competition on Friday. The traditional event, held on Kh. Road, saw an immense surge of city residents and devotees from far-flung areas, amplifying the festive spirit.

Municipal Council President Narendra Singh Kushwah and Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) Virendra Chakraborty were special guests, encouraging the participating Govinda teams. All councilors and esteemed citizens were also present at the program.

Cultural Unity and Team Spirit Converge

The event commenced with a ritualistic worship and Aarti of Lord Shri Krishna. Following this, various Govinda teams engaged in fierce competition to break the Matki (pot) tied at a considerable height. The Govindas formed human pyramids by climbing on each other's shoulders in an attempt to reach the pot.

After a tough contest and several unsuccessful attempts, one team succeeded in breaking the Dahi-Handi (Matki) and was declared the winner. The winning Govinda team was felicitated and honored by Municipal Council President Narendra Singh Kushwah and CMO Virendra Chakraborty. The entire venue resonated with chants of 'Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki' and 'Haathi Ghoda Palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki'.

Commitment to Elevating Tradition

Municipal Council President Narendra Singh Kushwah stated, "Shri Krishna Janmashtami is a major festival of our Sanatan culture. Cultural and traditional sporting events like these instill unity, brotherhood, and team spirit among the youth. The Municipal Council is committed to making this tradition even grander every year."

CMO Virendra Chakraborty expressed gratitude to the Municipal Council officials, staff, security forces, and the assembled public for the successful organization. He acknowledged that the grand event was completed successfully without any hindrance due to the cooperation of the city residents. A large number of common people were present throughout the program.
