A Sacred Abode Amidst Nature's Grandeur

Located amidst the dense forests and rugged hills of Pratapgarh district, bordering Rajasthan, the ancient Kamakhya Devi (Kamata Devi) temple, also known as 'Chhoti Vaishno Devi', is a prominent center of faith for devotees. This picturesque site is nothing short of paradise for nature lovers, situated about 400 feet below ground level between the villages of Meriakhedi and Khoriya.

Despite the path being described as 'difficult', involving large rocks, stony terrain, and dense forests, the unwavering faith of devotees helps them overcome these challenges to reach the deity's abode. The natural beauty of this place, nestled in the lap of the Aravalli hills, mesmerizes visitors.

Monsoon Waterfall: A Mesmerizing Spectacle

During the monsoon season, a waterfall cascading from a height of approximately 130 feet becomes a major attraction. The surrounding greenery, cool winds from the hills, and the murmuring stream of the waterfall draw devotees and tourists alike.

Visitors enjoying the scenic beauty below the waterfall momentarily forget the hustle and bustle of life. The view is so captivating, it feels as if nature itself has meticulously crafted this place.

The Cave's Mystery and the Goddess's Miracle

Another unique feature of the Kamakhya Devi site is a tunnel-like cave, about 20 feet deep, which remains a subject of curiosity for devotees. It is believed that water flows from this cave even during the scorching summer months of April-May.

Devotees report that touching the cave with a bamboo stick brings forth water, which they consider a miracle and a blessing from Goddess Kamakhya. This mystical quality adds to the site's spiritual allure.

Preparations Underway for a Grand Fair on Sawan Amavasya

This year, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, a grand one-day fair will be organized at the Kamakhya Devi temple premises on the occasion of Sawan Amavasya. Organized jointly by the Gram Panchayat Kesharpura and the Temple Committee, thousands of devotees from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and surrounding districts are expected to attend.

During the fair, various shops selling traditional jewelry, savory snacks, toys, and other items will be set up. Devotees will have the opportunity to offer prayers and enjoy shopping. Sawan Amavasya witnesses a surge of devotion here, with the entire area coming alive with the festive spirit.

A Tourist Destination Awaiting Development

Despite its natural beauty and religious significance, the Kamakhya Devi site still awaits significant development. There is a dire need for accessible routes, adequate facilities, and tourism promotion. If the local administration and relevant departments focus on this site and expand basic amenities, it could become a major hub for both religious and eco-tourism.

Unique Worship Rituals

This ancient temple of Kamakhya Devi is also unique in its mode of worship. No authorized priest is appointed here; devotees arriving from afar offer their prayers and perform rituals themselves. This practice reflects the belief that 'the doors of the Mother are always open for those with devotion in their hearts.'

Wildlife Threat and Post-Sunset Silence

Due to its location amidst dense forests and caves, there are occasional reports of sightings of wild animals. Consequently, devotees and tourists typically depart the area before sunset. As dusk settles, the region falls into a profound silence, contrasting with its daytime bustle, highlighting its wild and secluded nature.

A Blend of Natural Beauty, Adventure, Deep Faith, and Unsolved Mysteries

The Kamakhya Devi temple offers a unique experience, blending natural beauty, adventure, deep faith, and intriguing mysteries. This is why it is said that 'those who come here once, leave with memories of this place etched in their hearts.'
