Goshala in Narsinghpur Allegedly Lacks Fodder, Water; Call for Probe into Cruelty Claims
An inspection of a government-aided cowshed in Narsinghpur revealed poor conditions, prompting a demand for an investigation into alleged animal cruelty.

Cow Shelter Faces Scrutiny Over Lack of Basic Necessities
In Ratikarar Kala village, under the Kareli Janpad Panchayat in Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh, a cowshed established under the Mukhyamantri Gaunvansh Sahayata Yojana has come under fire. Allegations of mismanagement and inadequate provision of fodder and water for the cattle have surfaced.
Bhagirath Tiwari, an honorary animal welfare officer appointed by the Board of Control for Animal Welfare (BCAW), expressed grave concern following an inspection. He has urged authorities to ensure proper arrangements for adequate fodder, clean drinking water, and appropriate care for the bovine population.
Animal Welfare Officer Reports Dire Conditions
During his inspection, Bhagirath Tiwari observed that the cows were deprived of sufficient food and water. The availability of fodder was found to be insufficient, and the drinking water tank lacked basic hygiene. He described this situation as a serious violation under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Questions Raised Over Cow Shelter Management
Tiwari learned from local village panchayat officials that the cowshed's operations have been handed over to a self-help group. According to the local Sarpanch's party, this arrangement was made on the directive of the BJP Mandal President, Sanjay Banwari. This revelation has led to demands for an impartial investigation into the cowshed's operational procedures, allocated responsibilities, and overall management.
Demand for Investigation and Action
In response to the alleged mistreatment and mismanagement of the cattle, Bhagirath Tiwari has submitted an application to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the village panchayat's Sarpanch and Secretary. The application requests action under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Copies of the complaint have also been forwarded to the Chairperson of the Board of Control for Animal Welfare, former Chairman of the National Kamdhenu Commission Dr. Vallabhbhai Kathiria, former Union Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, the District Collector, the Chief Minister, and other relevant authorities. Administrative officials are expected to conduct an immediate on-site inspection to ascertain the ground reality.
A thorough investigation is expected to reveal the truth behind the care and management of the cattle. If any irregularities or instances of animal cruelty are proven during the investigation, stern action will be taken against the culprits as per the law.
