Ganja Smugglers Apprehended in Guna with Contraband Valued at 2.5 Lakhs; Previous Cases Registered

As part of an anti-drug campaign in Guna district, Mrigwas police station successfully apprehended two inter-state ganja smugglers at the Pipalkheda crossing. Police recovered over five kilograms of ganja from the accused, with an estimated market value of approximately 2.5 lakh rupees.
It was also revealed that the arrested smugglers have prior involvement in drug trafficking cases. Information received indicated that two suspicious individuals were present at the Pipalkheda crossing, intending to sell illegal narcotic substance ganja. Acting on this tip, a police team quickly cordoned off the area. The accused attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were swiftly apprehended by the alert force.
Arrest of Inter-State Smugglers and Seizure of Contraband
The arrested individuals have been identified as Garib Sunar and Gunasagar, residents of Balangir district in Odisha state. A thorough search of the accused yielded a total of 5.084 kilograms of ganja. The estimated value of this seized ganja is approximately 2.50 lakh rupees.
Police have confiscated the recovered ganja and registered a case under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, bearing Crime Number 121/26, at the Mrigwas police station against both accused.
Accused Previously Involved in Smuggling
During detailed police interrogation, it emerged that both smugglers are part of a ganja trafficking network and have been involved in similar offenses previously. Notably, the Mrigwas police had apprehended these smugglers along with some associates on May 26 of this year and registered cases against them. This indicates the accused's continuous involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Investigation into Smuggling Network Underway
The effective action, carried out under the direction of Superintendent of Police Hittika Vasal as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign, is being lauded. Station House Officer Sandeep Yadav, Sanai Outpost In-charge Rahul Sharma, and their team members played a significant role in executing this operation.
Police are now conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover the inter-state network behind this smuggling operation. Based on the information provided by the accused, efforts are being made to determine the origin of the ganja and its intended destination for supply. The police administration has assured the continuation of surveillance and strict legal action to eradicate the drug trade from the district.
