During the exchange of fire between the police and the criminals, one accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg in retaliation. Acting on precise information received from an informant on the night of the incident, a police team cordoned off the unpaved track of the Saath Canal.
When the police signaled the accused to stop, they opened fire on the police team with the intent to kill. In self-defense, the police retaliated, resulting in the wanted accused, Qasim, being shot in the leg. The injured Qasim was immediately taken to the Faridpur Community Health Center for treatment. The police also apprehended his accomplice, Zahid alias Aliya, at the scene.
Informant's Accurate Tip Leads to Police Cordon and Arrest of Both Accused
The Faridpur police station received specific information from an informant that Qasim, wanted under the Gangster Act, was present in the area with his associate Zahid. Following this intelligence, a team was formed under the leadership of the Station House Officer and promptly acted to cordon off the unpaved track of the Saath Canal.
Unaware of the police cordon, accused Qasim and Zahid were passing by on a motorcycle. Upon seeing the police, they attempted to flee instead of stopping. During this, the police tried to stop them, but the duo revealed their intentions by opening fire on the police.
One Accused Injured in the Leg During Encounter
Witnessing the life-threatening attack on the police team, the police retaliated in self-defense. In this retaliatory firing, the main accused, Qasim, who was wanted under the Gangster Act, was shot in the leg and fell to the ground, injured. The police immediately transported Qasim to the Faridpur Community Health Center for primary treatment, where he is currently undergoing medical care.
The swift action and retaliatory firing by the police prevented a major crime from occurring. The injured Qasim's condition is currently stable, and he remains under police surveillance. The police recovered illegal firearms and a motorcycle from the accused.
Illegal Firearms and Motorcycle Recovered from Accused
During the search, the police recovered two illegal 315 bore firearms from the possession of both accused. These firearms were being used to fire upon the police. Additionally, the search yielded three live cartridges, one spent cartridge, and one cartridge still lodged in the barrel, indicating the seriousness of their firing.
The police also recovered the Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle from the scene, which the accused were using for committing crimes or escaping. Following these seizures, it became clear that the accused were not only wanted under the Gangster Act but also possessed illegal weapons, which they were using to pose a threat to law and order.
Case Registered Under Gangster Act, Long Criminal History
Preliminary police investigation and record checks revealed that a serious case was registered against the main accused, Qasim, under the Gangster Act at the Faridpur police station on August 22, 2026. Five other associates were also named in this case. Qasim has a long and significant criminal history.
According to police records, the 42-year-old Qasim faces multiple cases under severe sections including the Gangster Act, Arms Act, theft, and assault in various police stations such as Faridpur, Bhojpur, and Fatehganj East. His accomplice, 38-year-old Zahid alias Aliya, also has a criminal record registered under the Arms Act and other sections. This arrest is a significant link in the chain of serious offenses against these two individuals.
Legal Proceedings Underway, Search for Other Accomplices and Increased Security in the Area
Following this recent development, a new case has been registered at the Faridpur police station under Case Number 764/2026, invoking Section 109(1) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act. According to the police administration, legal proceedings against the accused are being completed as per rules.
After the arrest and recovery, both are being presented before the court to ensure further legal action is taken against them. The Superintendent of Police described this significant operation as a crucial step towards controlling crime and restoring law and order in the area. The police are currently conducting intensive interrogation of both accused to uncover their network and gather crucial information about their other accomplices, for whom multiple police teams are actively searching.
Currently, the injured accused, Qasim, is receiving medical treatment, and his health condition is reported to be stable. The police team conducted a thorough search of the incident site to gather any further suspicious evidence or clues. Following this incident, security arrangements have been further tightened in Bareilly and surrounding sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incidents and to curb criminal activities.
