From Trash to Treasure: DAV College Students Create Useful Items from Discarded Materials

Innovative Competition Promotes Recycling and Environmental Awareness

Mahoba, August 12, 2026 – The DAV Inter College in Mahoba, in collaboration with the 'Mera Yuva Bharat' organization, organized a distinctive 'Jugaad from Kabaddi' (Trash to Treasure) competition as part of the Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight). The primary objective of this event was to educate students on the importance of cleanliness, recycling, and environmental conservation.

This initiative was specifically designed to make the younger generation more sensitive towards the environment and to foster them into responsible citizens. Present at the event were the school principal, esteemed teachers, and 'Mera Yuva Bharat' volunteers including Ayush Chaurasia, Dharmendra Sen, Sangam Dwivedi, and Prashant Chaurasia. The competition aimed to teach students the art of transforming discarded, unusable items into valuable and functional objects.

Creativity Meets Environmental Protection

During the competition, students showcased remarkable imagination and creativity. They utilized old and discarded materials such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, scrap metal, and other waste items to create a diverse range of useful objects. These creations included artworks from recycled materials, toys, practical household items, and decorative pieces.

Among the items crafted by the students were plant pots made from old bottles, stationery holders from cardboard boxes, new art pieces from broken toys, and models from other scrap materials. In the competition, Mohammad Alsaif secured the first position with his exceptional talent, presenting an attractive model made from plastic bottles and other recycled materials. Saksham Chaurasia was awarded the second prize for creating a useful stationery organizer using old cardboard boxes and paper. Dharmendra Kushwaha clinched the third position for his creative endeavor, crafting a unique artwork from scrap metal pieces.

At the conclusion of the event, all participants were encouraged to make cleanliness a part of their daily routine and to play an active role in environmental conservation. They were also informed about how their small efforts can lead to significant positive change.

The program concluded with all attendees reiterating the pledge of 'Clean India, Healthy India' and a call to contribute to building a cleaner society.
