Pawan Kalyan earns historic Samurai recognition, first from Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan has achieved a landmark international honour in Japanese martial arts, becoming the first person from the state to be recognized as a Samurai. The accolades, officially confirmed in a Jana Sena press release, were conferred on December 30, 2025.

Kalyan received the fifth dan (5th Dan) from Sogo Budo Kanri Kai, one of the most respected governing bodies in traditional Japanese martial arts. He also became the first Telugu-speaking individual inducted into the historic Takeda Shingen Clan under Soke Muramatsu Sensei—a distinction rarely granted to non-Japanese practitioners. Further cementing his reputation, the Golden Dragons organization awarded him the title “Tiger of Martial Arts” for his decades-long dedication to the discipline.

Starting his martial journey in Chennai, Kalyan trained rigorously in karate and related arts, later delving deeply into Samurai philosophy and Budo principles. Over 30 years, he expanded his expertise to Kendo and Kenjutsu under the guidance of Hanshi Prof. Dr. Siddiq Mahmoodi, evolving from a practitioner to a scholar of martial arts traditions.
