The Balrampur district witnessed an unprecedented surge of devotion on the fourth Monday of the Sawan month, with thousands of devotees making their way to Shiva temples. As the temple doors opened at dawn, long queues of men and women formed, patiently waiting for hours to catch a glimpse of Lord Shiva and perform 'Jal Abhishek' (offering water). The air was filled with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Bol Bam' throughout the day.
Devotees, from young children to the elderly, arrived early at the prominent temples. They performed the rituals of bathing Lord Shiva with water, milk, and other offerings, including Bilva leaves and Dhatura, while praying for the well-being and prosperity of their families. The atmosphere was further enhanced by devotional songs and chanting, creating a deeply spiritual ambiance.
Widespread Devotion Across the District
Similar scenes of fervent devotion were observed in other major Shiva temples across the district, including those in rural areas. Many devotees observed fasts, some even without consuming water, to appease Lord Shiva. In addition to 'Jal Abhishek', devotees offered Bilva leaves, Dhatura, Aakda flowers, and other items dear to Lord Shiva.
The unwavering faith and devotion of the devotees were palpable as they stood in queues. It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva during the Sawan month yields special rewards, making this period highly sacred for devotees engaged in earnest prayer.
