Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur, has taken a significant step demonstrating its commitment to environmental protection alongside education. A total of four neem saplings were planted on the university campus, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vimla Yadav and members of the new Executive Council participating in the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vimla Yadav emphasized that educational institutions should not only be centers of knowledge but also facilitators of sustainable development and nature conservation. She described trees as nature's invaluable living capital, stating that their preservation is the collective responsibility of every citizen.

Tree Plantation Driven by Environmental Advocate

The tree plantation program was organized at the behest of Dr. O.P. Chaudhary, an environmental enthusiast and member of the Executive Council, prior to the first meeting of the new Executive Council members nominated by the Hon'ble Governor.

The plantation drive saw the participation of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vimla Yadav along with Justice Satish Chandra, Prof. Rajendra Singh Pundhir, Prof. Kiran Sahu, Prof. Om Prakash Chaudhary, Registrar Kamal Krishna, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, and Rajan Lamba. The entire process was carried out under the supervision of the university engineer, Er. Vivek Singh Pundhir.

Pledge for a Clean Environment for Future Generations

Addressing the event, Dr. O.P. Chaudhary stated that each sapling planted today will form the basis of clean air and healthy lives for future generations. He highlighted the importance of the neem tree, underscoring its medicinal properties.

Dr. Chaudhary noted that neem remains green even in adverse conditions and is extremely beneficial for humans, animals, and agriculture. He reiterated his resolve to develop the university into an ideal campus that is green, innovative, and aligned with Indian knowledge traditions.

Ensuring Protection and Continuous Care

The efforts of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vimla Yadav were lauded for the success of this initiative by the university administration. To ensure the continuous care and protection of the planted saplings, Mr. Sunny has been appointed as their caretaker.

The primary objective is to ensure that these young trees grow into mighty trees in the future, providing shade and pure oxygen to all. This step by the university administration is being viewed as a crucial advancement towards making the campus environmentally friendly.
