Hanumat Singh, a former Cabinet Minister of Uttar Pradesh, distinguished senior advocate, and renowned social worker, has passed away. His demise has sent a ripple of grief across Balrampur and the entire state.

Mr. Singh's life was widely regarded as an exemplary testament to unwavering dedication towards social service, public struggle, justice, and public welfare. Born on May 1, 1943, in Marwata Gram of Basti district, he pursued law at Lucknow University before commencing his legal practice in Balrampur in 1965.

Legal and Social Prowess

Through his talent, integrity, simplicity, and commitment to justice, he carved a niche among the senior and respected advocates of the district. He was not only a successful lawyer but also a consistent leader in social, religious, and public interest activities, dedicating his life primarily to aiding the weaker and needy sections of society.

Political Journey and Ministerial Tenure

In his political career, Mr. Hanumat Singh first contested elections from the Balrampur assembly constituency in 1985. He was subsequently elected as an MLA from Balrampur in 1989 and re-elected in 1991, representing the constituency effectively from 1989 to 1993.

Recognizing his competence and public service, he was entrusted with the significant responsibility of Cabinet Minister for Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry in the Uttar Pradesh government led by then-Chief Minister Shri Kalyan Singh, serving from June 24, 1991, to December 6, 1992. During his tenure, he undertook notable work to protect the interests of sugarcane farmers, promote the sugar industry, and strengthen the state's agro-based industries.

Close Ties with Vajpayee and Organizational Role

Mr. Hanumat Singh maintained a close political and organizational relationship with former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient, the venerable Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He played an active role in strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party's organization, spreading its nationalist ideology, and engaging in public service.

His simplicity, straightforwardness, honesty, and deep commitment to public concerns earned him immense respect among the masses. He drew inspiration for his social and nationalist ideals from his father, Shri Kesari Singh, who was himself active in social and religious endeavors and had contested the assembly elections from Basti in 1952 as a Hindu Mahasabha candidate.

Family Background

In his personal life, Mr. Hanumat Singh was survived by his brothers Vijay Pratap Singh and Shiv Pratap Singh, and four sisters. His immediate family includes a son, Akhilesh Pratap Singh, and two daughters, Meeta Singh and Gudiya Singh.

Final Rites

Mr. Hanumat Singh's entire life was imbued with the spirit of justice, service, social dedication, and public welfare. Through his work in law, politics, and social service, he made significant contributions to the development of Balrampur and its surrounding regions. His passing is considered an irreparable loss to the district, the state, and the Bharatiya Janata Party family. His cremation is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10 AM at Rapti Ghat, Balrampur.
