Officials also raised objections to the repeated reuse of oil, deeming it a violation of food safety standards. Consequently, a sample of the oil has been sent for laboratory testing.
Quality Checks at Sweet Shops and Dairies
On Wednesday, a joint team of revenue officials inspected the factory of 'Bikaner Mishthan Bhandar' situated at Jaystambh Chowk, where sweets, mawa, and namkeen were being produced. Food safety officials seized several food ingredient samples, including mawa, cashews, almonds, and pistachios, for quality testing. Separately, a case was also registered against the factory operator for violations of labor department regulations.
Action on Previous Samples Leads to Fines
The Food Safety Department has also taken strict action based on the investigation reports of samples collected from various establishments in the past. Mawa and milk samples taken from 'Chandel Dairy & Restaurant' and 'Sharma Doodh Dairy' were found to be substandard. In these cases of substandard food products, the department has filed lawsuits against the respective traders in court. The court has the provision to impose fines up to five lakh rupees in these matters. This continuous action by the department has caused a stir among the city's food traders. The administration has clarified that no establishment found to be compromising consumer health during the festivals will be spared, and efforts to curb adulteration have been intensified.
