Guna to Establish Flower Production Cluster

A significant initiative is underway in the Guna district to foster growth in flower production with the planned development of a dedicated flower production cluster. This effort aims to significantly increase farmers' incomes and provide a new identity to the region's horticulture sector.

Commissioner Reviews Agricultural Practices

On Friday, Shri Saurabh Kumar Suman, Commissioner of the Horticulture and Food Processing Department, conducted an intensive inspection of various agricultural farms across the district. During his visit, he issued essential directives related to the cluster development plan and closely observed the modern techniques being employed by farmers in polyhouses.

Commissioner Suman also reviewed tomato cultivation in shade net houses and inspected guava orchards. He engaged directly with progressive farmers, Nathuram Lodha and Narmada Shankar Bhargav, to gather detailed information on farming costs, adopted technologies, and current marketing arrangements.

Directive Issued for Cluster Development

In light of the farmers' efforts and the immense potential for flower production in the district, Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Suman issued clear instructions to the Deputy Director of Horticulture. The directive is to develop a cluster in Guna for the production of roses, as well as cut flowers, loose flowers, and bulbous flowers.

He emphasized the critical need to promote organized farming aligned with local climatic conditions and market demand. He believes this will grant the district's horticulture sector a distinct national identity.

Focus on Processing and Value Addition

Addressing the officials, Commissioner Suman stated that it is insufficient to confine farmers solely to crop production. He highlighted the current need to connect them with value addition techniques such as processing, packaging, and dehydration, alongside modern marketing strategies.

He further directed that farmers should be facilitated with visits to institutions where processing and value addition are being carried out in a well-organized manner, enabling them to learn new methodologies. This entire initiative can prove to be a significant step towards encouraging innovation in the district's horticulture sector and strengthening the economic condition of its farmers.

The inspection was attended by Deputy Directors of Horticulture KPS Kirar, Manoj Kumar Rathore, and Saurav Gupta, along with several other departmental officials. Commissioner Suman was traditionally welcomed with a bouquet of roses produced in a polyhouse.
