Cow Slaughter Accused Injured in Police Encounter, Accomplice Arrested

FATEHPUR | August 25, 2026 | Two accused wanted under the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act were involved in a police encounter in the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. One accused was arrested injured after being shot in the leg, while his accomplice was apprehended by the police after a cordon and search operation.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of August 24 and 25 in the forests of Barkatpur village, near the Sasur Khedri river in the Khaga police station area. Police claim that tools used in cow slaughter, along with a country-made pistol and cartridges, were recovered during the operation. According to police, a joint team of Khaga and Hathgaon police stations received information from an informant about the presence of the accused wanted in a cow slaughter prevention case in this area.

Accused Injured in Encounter, Accomplice Arrested

As soon as the police team arrived and began the cordon, the accused attempted to flee, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the police and the accused. As per the statement released by the police, Shahzada, son of Dargahi, a resident of Amaon, sustained a bullet injury in his right leg during the encounter. He collapsed at the spot after being shot. The police immediately took him into custody and sent him to the district hospital for treatment in an injured condition.

Tools Used in Cow Slaughter and Weapons Recovered

Police claim that several tools used in cow slaughter activities were recovered from the possession of the accused at the scene. These include six knives, two axes, a cleaver, a sharpening stone, rope/string, and handcuffs. Additionally, the police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, a spent cartridge, and a live cartridge.

All recovered items have been taken into police custody as evidence, and further legal proceedings have been initiated. The police consider this encounter a significant success in the cow slaughter-related case.

Over a Dozen Cases Registered Against Accused

According to senior police officials, Shahzada, who was injured in the encounter, and Sibu alias Shahbaz Alam, who was arrested, have more than 13 criminal cases registered against them, not only in Fatehpur district but also in other districts. The police are actively gathering information to ascertain the detailed criminal history of these two accused. It is also being investigated whether they have any cases registered against them in other states.

The police are also engaged in searching for other absconding accused in this case, with raids being conducted at their suspected locations and information being gathered from local informants. Police are actively investigating the network of the arrested accused and seeking to uncover other individuals involved in cow slaughter-related illegal activities. Further action will be taken based on the interrogation of the arrested accused, Sibu, while the injured accused, Shahzada, is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Following this incident, the police have increased surveillance and vigilance in Barkatpur village and the surrounding forest area along the Sasur Khedri river. The police team is also investigating the network of the arrested accused and probing who else might be involved in cow slaughter-related illegal activities.
