Farrukhabad: Initiative Launched to Revitalize Stalled Sitapur Eye Hospital
Farrukhabad's District Magistrate is spearheading efforts to reopen the long-closed Sitapur Eye Hospital, addressing public health needs.

Hospital Inspection and Revival Efforts Underway
Farrukhabad, August 21, 2026 - Farrukhabad's District Magistrate, Dr. Ankur Lathar, accompanied by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Upadhyay, conducted a site inspection of the Sitapur Eye Hospital in Fatehgarh. This ophthalmology center has been non-operational for the past 15-20 years, depriving local residents of essential healthcare services.
In response to public grievances, the District Magistrate has taken significant steps towards the renovation of the dilapidated building. During the inspection, Dr. Lathar summoned the District Government Advocate (Civil), Mr. Krishnakant Mahajan, to review land records and submit a detailed report. Additionally, the Executive Engineer, PWD, Farrukhabad, Mr. Muralidhar, was ordered to physically inspect the hospital building and submit a comprehensive report.
Renewed Operations and Historical Context
Instructions have been given to the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anand Upadhyay, to establish inter-departmental coordination and complete the necessary departmental procedures under the 'Eye Relief Society'. This is to ensure that the Sitapur Eye Hospital can be made functional again as soon as possible. It is noteworthy that the District Magistrate herself serves as the Chairperson of the 'Eye Relief Society', with the Chief Medical Officer as its Vice-Chairman.
According to sources, the hospital previously received grants from the government, which ceased in 2022. Constructed in 1963 on land acquired by the district administration, its development was supported by public contributions and government grants. While operated by the Sitapur Eye Hospital for some years, it has been poorly managed for the last decade and a half to two decades.
Hope for Improved Healthcare Access
Consequently, the building has fallen into disrepair, and the residents of Farrukhabad are unable to benefit from its services. The proactive engagement of District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lathar marks the beginning of the revival of this vital health facility. It is anticipated that the joint efforts of the District Magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer will enable not only the people of Farrukhabad but also those in surrounding districts to access the services of this eye hospital.
