Attack at Jammu Wedding
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Thursday at a wedding function in Jammu's Greater Kailash area. A 63-year-old man, Kamal Singh Jamwal, allegedly fired two shots at Abdullah.

"God saved me," Abdullah stated, reflecting on the incident. He added, "I was walking out of the venue when I heard the sound of a firecracker. Immediately, I was rushed into a car."
Abdullah questioned the lack of police presence at the event, despite the presence of many VIPs.
"Many big personalities were present at this wedding, but there was no police present. By Allah's grace, my security was present with me, and my life was saved."
He also reflected on the changed power dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. He called for the restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
"An elected govt doesn't have powers—how can it continue this way? We were promised that statehood would be restored..."

Omar Abdullah raised concerns about the security lapse that allowed the gunman to get so close to his father, who has Z+ NSG protection.
"Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave... It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot & ensured that the assassination attempt failed."
The Union Home Minister contacted Abdullah to inquire about his well-being and assured him that the matter would be investigated. Abdullah stated, "An inquiry should be done."
