Agriculture Department Initiative in Meerganj

The Bareilly district's Meerganj block has launched a significant initiative by the Department of Agriculture aimed at increasing the productivity of Rabi crops. A special program, chaired by Block Chief Gopalkrishna Gangwar, facilitated the free distribution of advanced mini-kits for pulses and oilseeds among local farmers.

The core objective of this initiative is to foster farmer self-reliance and augment their income. Farmers were provided with mini-kits specifically for cultivating lentils, mustard, chickpeas, and peas. Block Chief Gopalkrishna Gangwar stated that the state government is making serious efforts to empower farmers through the provision of improved seeds.

Government's Focus on Crop Productivity

Gangwar emphasized that these mini-kits will assist farmers in obtaining high-quality seeds at a low cost, with the expectation of a significant improvement in their future yield and income. The government's aim is to enhance overall crop productivity.

According to Rajesh Chauhan, Assistant Development Officer (Agriculture) for the Department of Agriculture, the primary goal of this scheme is to increase both the area under pulses and oilseeds and their total production. He also highlighted that these mini-kits serve as a crucial backup option for farmers when yields of main crops are low, encouraging them towards alternative cultivation.

Expert Guidance and Farmer Benefits

Subject Matter Expert Mohit provided farmers with detailed information on these advanced varieties and explained their proper usage. He noted that the new seed varieties can offer better yields and potentially benefit soil health. This initiative is expected to economically empower farmers and promote agricultural diversification in the region.

Numerous farmers, including Preampal Singh, Chandrapal, Naresh Gangwar, Rashid Hussain, Rafiq Ahmed, Mohammad Yameen, and Jaywanti Devi, directly benefited from this mini-kit distribution. Progressive woman farmer Rajkumari Chauhan was also present at the event. Several agriculture department employees and local dignitaries also participated in the program.

This event is seen as a decisive step towards showcasing and promoting new agricultural varieties in the region, heralding positive changes in the agricultural sector in the future.
