Fake Robbery Story Unravels: Complainant Revealed as Mastermind, Two Accomplices Arrested

Police Uncover Elaborate Deception in Staged Robbery

Damoh, Madhya Pradesh | August 11, 2026 – In a sensational turn of events, the Damoh police have cracked the case of a purported robbery of microfinance company collection money. Investigations revealed the shocking truth: the complainant himself was the mastermind behind the elaborate scheme.

The complainant fabricated a story of being robbed by unknown assailants, but police investigations have brought his deception to light. Along with two accomplices, he meticulously planned the incident to falsely claim the stolen funds. All three accused have now been arrested, and a significant portion of the allegedly stolen money has been recovered.

Complainant Identified as Orchestrator of Deception

The incident occurred on August 8, 2026, within the jurisdiction of the Jabalpur Naka Chowki in the Damoh rural police station area. The complainant, Ghanshyam Ahirwar (21), who was residing in Damoh, had filed a report alleging that two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle forcibly snatched a bag containing approximately one lakh twenty-three thousand rupees from his colleague, trainee Juhi Chandel.

Based on this report, the police registered a case under Section 309(4) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and commenced their investigation. The gravity of the incident prompted Damoh Superintendent of Police, Shri Anand Kaladagi (IPS), to form a special investigation team.

Thorough Investigation Leads to Accused's Confession

The police meticulously analyzed footage from approximately 50 CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the incident. They also examined call detail records (CDR) and other technical evidence, while simultaneously activating their network of informants. During the investigation, the police found Ghanshyam Ahirwar's role to be suspicious, leading to intense questioning.

Under interrogation, Ghanshyam Ahirwar confessed to his crime. He revealed that he had conspired with his associates, Sanjay Sour (22) and Sohit alias Virendra Rajak (18), all residents of Pipariya, Surkhi Police Station, Sagar district, to execute the robbery. They admitted to having received Rs. 1,17,335 from the looted amount, of which they had spent approximately Rs. 12,335. The remaining Rs. 1,05,000 was then divided amongst themselves.

Discrepancy in Reported Amount Highlights Fabricated Story

It is noteworthy that the day after the incident, the complainant had exaggerated the reported stolen amount to Rs. 1,23,800 in his report against unknown individuals. This was a clear attempt to bolster his fabricated narrative of the robbery.

Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Assets

The police have successfully arrested all three accused: Ghanshyam Ahirwar, Sanjay Sour, and Sohit alias Virendra Rajak. Acting on their disclosures, the police have recovered the motorcycle used in the incident, three mobile phones, and cash amounting to Rs. 1,05,000.

The total value of the seized items is estimated to be approximately Rs. 01 lakh 83 thousand. The arrested accused have been presented before the honorable court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
