Exhibition ‘Rang Smriti: 9’ Showcases Rare Works of Artist Sachida Nagdev at Ravindra Bhavan

A special five-day art exhibition titled “Sachida Nagdev Rang Smriti: 9” opened at the Gauranjini Art Gallery of Ravindra Bhavan, celebrating the legacy of noted artist Sachida Nagdev and his guru, eminent archaeologist and painter Dr. Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar.

The exhibition, which marks Nagdev’s 86th birth anniversary, features over 100 paintings ranging from Radha-Krishna romantic series and abstract works to sketches inspired by Kumar Sambhavam and scenic depictions of Mandu and Khajuraho.

A rare collection of archival photographs (1950s–1990s) has also been displayed, including a striking 1955 series showing Dr. Wakankar, Nagdev, batik art expert Raheem Gutti, and artist Mujjafar Qureshi exploring prehistoric rock paintings in the forests of Madhya Pradesh.

Nagdev’s daughter, Smita, a renowned sitarist, said the exhibition highlights the timeless Guru–Shishya Parampara, offering visitors a glimpse into the artistic bond between her father and his mentor. “These artworks and photographs are rare and not available in the public domain — they preserve a visual history,” she added.
