Excise Department Cracks Down on Illicit Liquor in Guna

In the wake of the unfortunate incident of poisonous liquor in Sagar district, a comprehensive campaign against illicit liquor has been initiated in the Guna district. Under the directives of the Divisional Flying Squad Deputy Commissioner, Gwalior, and Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal, the executive force of the Excise Department, led by the District Excise Officer, is actively engaged in this operation.

The primary objective of this campaign is to curb the production, sale, and storage of illegal liquor within the district. During the operation, intensive patrolling and raids were conducted in the villages of Atakhedi and Sumarda, falling under Circle Guna-2. The department's team identified several locations involved in the manufacture and accumulation of raw and illegal liquor in these villages.

Raids and Seizures in Atakhedi and Sumarda

During the action, approximately 10 liters of hand-distilled liquor and 300 kilograms of 'lahan' (fermented mash) were seized from these locations, which were subsequently demolished. The seized materials were destroyed on the spot. Formal cases have been registered against the concerned accused under the Excise Act.

Continued Action in Mrigwas and Surrounding Areas

In a similar vein, a team led by Assistant District Excise Officer and Circle Pichore In-charge LR Karotiya conducted raids against illegal liquor in Mrigwas and other surrounding areas. This action resulted in the seizure of 15 liters of hand-distilled liquor and 300 kilograms of jaggery-mahua 'lahan'. Two separate cases under the Excise Act were also registered in this area.

Total Seizure and Estimated Value

As a result of these joint operations conducted across the district, a total of four cases have been registered. In this crackdown, a total of 25 liters of hand-distilled liquor and 650 kilograms of 'lahan' made from jaggery-mahua were seized. The seized 'lahan' was safely destroyed on the spot to prevent its misuse. The estimated value of the seized materials has been assessed at approximately 35,000 rupees.

The department has assured that such actions will continue to effectively curb the illegal liquor trade.
