Demand for Accelerated Bahraich-Khalilabad Rail Project Following Meeting with Union Rail Minister

The Cliff News | August 11, 2026

Former MP Daddan Mishra on Tuesday met with Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to demand an acceleration in the construction of the Bahraich-Khalilabad new rail line project, which is intended to serve the districts of Bahraich, Shravasti, and Balrampur.

He submitted a letter to the Rail Minister, urging a high-level review of the project and the issuance of necessary instructions to the concerned officials. In his letter, former MP Daddan Mishra emphasized that Shravasti district remains one of the backward districts in the country devoid of rail connectivity.

He highlighted that despite decades of independence, no railway line has passed through this district. Mishra pointed out that a significant number of elderly citizens in these rural areas have never seen a train in their lifetime. Therefore, the provision of rail facilities could provide a new direction for the district's development.

Project Status and Demands

According to the letter, the Bahraich-Khalilabad new rail line project was approved by the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018. The proposed rail line is slated to connect to Khalilabad via Bhinaga, Shravasti, Balrampur, Utraula, and Dumariaganj.

Budgetary provisions have been made for the project periodically, and funds for land acquisition have also been provided to the concerned districts. Former MP Mishra mentioned in the letter that the project's work is progressing relatively faster in Sant Kabir Nagar and Siddharth Nagar districts.

However, he noted that the work in Bahraich, Shravasti, and Balrampur districts is not proceeding at the expected pace. Consequently, millions of people in these districts are still awaiting rail facilities. The former MP specifically urged the Rail Minister to expedite land acquisition, surveying, and construction work.

He also demanded the assurance of regular high-level reviews of the project, so that this long-awaited rail project can be completed on the ground soon. Former MP Daddan Mishra stated that Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has given a positive assurance on this matter.
