Effort Underway to Revitalize Sitapur Eye Hospital in Farrukhabad, Closed for 15-20 Years

Hospital Inspection and Revival Initiative

Farrukhabad District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lathar, accompanied by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Upadhyay, inspected the Sitapur Eye Hospital located in Fatehgarh. This hospital has been non-operational for the past 15 to 20 years, a persistent issue brought to the DM's attention by the public on multiple occasions.

Following this inspection, the process to reopen the hospital has commenced. During the site visit, District Government Counsel (Civil) Shri Krishnakant Mahajan was summoned and instructed to review land records and submit a detailed report. Additionally, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (P.W.D.), Farrukhabad, Shri Muralidhar, was ordered to conduct a comprehensive physical and site inspection of the hospital and present a detailed report.

Planning for Hospital Rejuvenation

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Upadhyay has been directed to establish coordination among various departments. Furthermore, necessary departmental actions under the 'Eye Relief Society' are to be completed to make the Sitapur Eye Hospital operational once again. It is noteworthy that the District Magistrate himself chairs the 'Eye Relief Society,' with the Chief Medical Officer serving as its vice-chairman.

The inspection also revealed that the hospital previously received government grants, which ceased in 2022. Records indicate that the land was acquired by the district administration in 1963 and constructed through public cooperation and government grants. For several years, the Sitapur Eye Hospital operated successfully, but has suffered from mismanagement over the last 15-20 years.

Currently, the hospital building is in a dilapidated and neglected state, depriving the residents of Farrukhabad of its services. District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lathar has taken immediate cognisance of the matter and initiated steps towards its restoration. It is anticipated that through the proactive efforts of the District Magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer, the benefits of this eye hospital will extend not only to Farrukhabad but also to the surrounding areas.
