ECI's Impartiality Questioned: SUCI(C) Demands Chief Election Commissioner's Removal

Activists of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) (SUCI(C)) staged a protest at Hanuman Chowk in Guna on Friday, raising serious questions about the impartiality of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Citing media revelations, party state committee member Lokesh Sharma stated that these events have eroded public trust in the ECI's integrity. He alleged that the commission made one-sided decisions favouring the ruling BJP party, ensuring their electoral victories in various states.

Party activists claimed that two out of three Election Commissioners had registered their dissent on several ECI decisions. However, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar allegedly adopted a biased stance, violating existing laws.

During this demonstration, party district committee member Manoj Rajak labelled the situation as a 'fascist attack on democratic institutions'.

Key Demands Raised During Protest

Two main demands were primarily put forth during the protest. Firstly, the immediate dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from his post. The second demand was for the immediate halt of the SIR (Special Tuition for Registration) process and the reinstatement of the thirteen crore voters whose names were removed from the voter list.

The demonstration was conducted by district committee member Vikas Bansal.

Opposition to Voter List Purges

SUCI(C) activists also expressed concern over the large-scale removal of names from the voter list. They allege that this process disenfranchises voters, which they deem an undemocratic step.

Protesters registered their strong disapproval by burning effigies of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Locally, this protest has intensified discussions in political circles, sparking a debate on the ECI's functioning.
