DM Issues Strict Directives to Maintain Harmony on Janmashtami

In a bid to maintain peace and harmony across the district during the upcoming Shri Krishna Janmashtami festival, District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Gangwar has issued stringent directives to relevant officials. He particularly emphasized the need for heightened vigilance at sensitive locations, temples, and places of worship where large numbers of devotees are expected to gather.

Considering the potential for disputes and unrest that could be instigated by anti-social elements during the festival, the District Magistrate has provided essential guidelines to all administrative and police officers. These include close monitoring of various aspects such as the decoration of tableaux, route planning for processions, the use of non-traditional sound systems, the passage of processions near religious sites, objectionable slogans, rumour-mongering, crime during cultural events, indecent behavior, and instances of molestation of women and girls.

Special Surveillance at Sensitive Spots

All magistrates have been instructed to pay particular attention to the activities of anti-social elements in areas like the railway station, police line, Vindhyachal, Ashtabhuji Temple, Bariaghat Trimuhani, and towns and regions such as Chunhar, Narayanpur, Kachhwa, Ahraura, Madhupur, Marihan, Lalganj, and Haliya, where tableaux are often set up. Additional caution has been advised due to the possibility of pickpocketing, chain-snatching, and other criminal activities in these areas.

Emphasis has also been placed on strengthening security arrangements, taking into account the specific circumstances of the district, which is affected by Naxalite activities. This proactive approach aims to preempt any disturbances and ensure the safety of citizens.

Adherence to Decorum in Cultural Programs

Instructions have been issued to ensure that cultural programs adhere to Indian culture and traditions. The District Magistrate clarified that no obscene performances would be permitted, and artists' attire must not be indecent. Measures will be taken to ensure all programs are conducted with dignity, and no violation of decorum occurs.

The Superintendent of Police has been urged to specifically focus on all the aforementioned points at relevant police stations, the police line, jail, and other locations across the district where tableaux are displayed and cultural programs are organized. Immediate and effective action is to be ensured to strengthen law and order and prevent any disruption to peace during the festival.

Responsibility of Local Administrations

The District Magistrate has assigned the responsibility of maintaining law and order within the municipal area to the City Magistrate and within their respective sub-divisions to all Sub-Divisional Magistrates. They are tasked with ensuring that the Shri Krishna Janmashtami festival concludes in a harmonious atmosphere.

Alongside maintaining a sharp focus on sensitive and disputed sites, the local administration will ensure necessary actions are taken for the peaceful conclusion of the festival. This includes close coordination with all stakeholders and prompt response to any emerging issues.

Uninterrupted Power Supply and Civic Amenities

Furthermore, the Executive Engineers of Electricity Distribution Divisions First, Second, and Chunhar have been directed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply throughout the district during the festival to prevent public discontent. Sudden power outages are to be strictly prohibited.

The Executive Officers of the Municipal Councils of Mirzapur, Chunhar, Ahraura, and the Nagar Panchayat of Kachhwa have been instructed to ensure proper sanitation, water supply, and lighting arrangements in their respective areas. Similarly, the District Panchayat Raj Officer will ensure adequate arrangements for cleanliness, water supply, and lighting in rural areas, so that the general public does not face any inconvenience.
