Rural Distress Over Unreliable Power Supply

Residents of Gram Divna in Bareilly district have been facing severe distress for a considerable period due to frequent, unannounced power outages and damaged electricity cables. The situation has significantly disrupted their daily lives and livelihoods.

Memorandum Submitted to Electricity Department

In response to this ongoing electrical crisis, officials from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Arajnaik) met with the Junior Engineer (JE) of the electricity department at the electricity sub-station in Mirganj on Monday. They submitted a memorandum outlining their grievances and demands for a swift resolution.

Villagers Threaten Protest if Demands Unmet

The villagers, through the farmer's union, have warned the department that they will be compelled to resort to protests if the problem is not addressed promptly. This ultimatum highlights the growing frustration and desperation among the residents.

Uncertain Power Supply and Damaged Infrastructure

Thakur Rajan Singh, Rohilkhand Vice President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Arajnaik), informed JE Sabir Khan about the dire situation in Divna. He stated that power supply in the village is unpredictably interrupted day and night. Singh added that the supply system has completely collapsed in several areas due to burnt electricity cables, causing immense inconvenience to the villagers.

“This unannounced power cut has become a major problem for consumers, disrupting their daily work, children's studies, and other essential activities.”

Demand for Cable Replacement and Stable Supply

Thakur Rajan Singh urged the electricity department to immediately replace the burnt and damaged cables and restore a stable power supply to the village. He emphasized that the disruption of a basic amenity like electricity is severely affecting the villagers' daily lives and requires immediate intervention.

Impact on Agriculture and Allegations of Negligence

Farmers highlighted their dependence on electricity for irrigation, warning that the outages could negatively impact their crops. The memorandum also pointed out that the cables were damaged due to the negligence of the electricity department, placing the responsibility for swift resolution on them. Villagers allege that the department's failure to conduct timely maintenance has led to these recurrent problems.

Previous Complaints Ignored

They informed the JE that numerous complaints regarding the village's electrical system have been lodged previously, but no action has been taken. Several other officials and workers from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Arajnaik) were present during the meeting. These included Furqan Khan, Imran Khan, Thakur Rajendra Singh, Dr. Mudit Pratap Singh, Samar Ali, Satyaveer Gangwar, Aras Pathan, Fazil Bhai, Rajendra Singh, Naresh Singh, and Pramod. Women activists present were Mrs. Sunita Devi, Mrs. Kanchan Singh, and Mrs. Asha Devi. All attendees expressed hope for a swift resolution to the power issue.

Seven-Day Ultimatum Issued for Action

The villagers have issued a strict ultimatum: if the problem is not resolved within seven days, they will initiate a major protest movement.
