District Magistrate Reviews Cow Shelter Facilities
In a district-level meeting of the Cow Protection, Monitoring, and Evaluation Committee, Mahoba District Magistrate Gajal Bharadwaj conducted a detailed review of the arrangements at cow shelters. She instructed officials to ensure sufficient supplies of hay, green fodder, and drinking water for the sheltered cattle, especially considering the monsoon season.
Proper arrangements must also be made to protect the cattle from rain. The District Magistrate placed particular emphasis on the immediate commencement of construction work for essential facilities such as sheds, water troughs, and fodder storage units in shelters where these are currently lacking. This initiative aims to safeguard the cattle from adverse weather conditions and improve their overall health.
Focus on Better Cattle Management
It was also decided during the meeting that cow shelters with fewer cattle and those found to be small in terms of management capacity will be merged into larger cow protection centers. This consolidation is expected to ensure better management of the cattle and provide them with necessary facilities.
The District Magistrate stated that any negligence at any cow shelter will not be tolerated and the protection of cattle should be given the highest priority.
Review of Chief Minister's Participation Scheme
The District Magistrate also reviewed the status of cattle sustenance and payments under the Chief Minister's Participation Scheme. She directed officials to ensure that all payments related to the scheme are completed on time.
Under this scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government provides a financial assistance of Rs 50 per cow per day, amounting to Rs 1500 per month. Individuals caring for a maximum of four stray cattle can receive up to Rs 72,000 annually. The objective of the scheme is the protection and promotion of stray cattle. She also instructed that the cattle handed over under the scheme be verified.
