Elderly Woman Dies as Old House Collapses in Bareilly Rain

In a tragic incident in the Gor Loknathpur village of the Mirganj police station area in Bareilly, a 65-year-old woman named Phoola Devi lost her life when a part of her dilapidated house collapsed on Sunday morning due to heavy rainfall.

According to eyewitnesses, Phoola Devi was returning from the toilet when she was struck by the falling debris. A young man named Sompal was also critically injured in the accident. Local residents quickly worked to clear the rubble and pull out the victims, but Phoola Devi had already succumbed to her injuries.

The injured Sompal has been admitted to the nearest hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the entire village.

Monsoon Mayhem and a Tragic Accident

Continuous heavy rainfall in the Mirganj region on Sunday morning disrupted normal life. Amidst this, an unfortunate event in Gor Loknathpur village shocked everyone. An old and dilapidated house, with weakened roof tiles, could not withstand the persistent pressure of the rain and a section of it suddenly collapsed.

At that moment, the elderly woman, Phoola Devi, aged 65, was passing by the veranda. Eyewitnesses stated she was likely returning from a nearby toilet towards her home. The roof tiles and debris fell upon her, trapping her severely.

Local residents immediately initiated rescue efforts and tried to remove the debris, but due to the immense weight and lack of time, Phoola Devi could not be saved. She tragically died on the spot.

Young Man Critically Injured in the Collapse

Phoola Devi was not the only victim of this unfortunate incident; a young man named Sompal was also critically injured after being trapped under the debris.

Local residents, demonstrating presence of mind and courage, promptly began clearing the rubble. Through their swift efforts, the injured Sompal was extricated from the debris. Given the seriousness of his condition, Sompal was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.

Doctors at the hospital provided him with primary treatment, and he is currently undergoing medical care. His condition is being closely monitored.

Administration Assesses the Scene of the Incident

As soon as the local administration received information about this tragic accident, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mirganj, Ms. Nidhi Shukla, and Tehsildar Ashish Kumar, accompanied by police personnel, immediately arrived at the scene.

They thoroughly assessed the situation and gathered information about the incident from local residents. Administrative officials met with the victim's family, offering condolences and assuring them of all possible assistance.

Local representatives were also present at the site and conveyed their sympathy to the affected family. Officials issued necessary instructions for the immediate removal of debris and the ensuring of security in the affected area. The police have also initiated legal proceedings in this matter.

Appeal for Caution Regarding Dilapidated Buildings

Following this poignant incident, the administration has issued a special appeal to the residents of the area. Officials urged villagers to assess the condition of their homes, particularly those that have become dilapidated.

The risk associated with such structures increases during the rainy season. They advised people living in such houses to exercise extreme caution to prevent similar unfortunate incidents in the future.

Furthermore, administrative officials have directed local village heads and other responsible individuals to identify dilapidated buildings in their respective areas and ensure their repair or, if necessary, demolition. Instructions have also been given to submit immediate reports concerning such buildings.

This incident has once again highlighted the neglect of dilapidated government and private properties, which requires attention.
