Box Office Showdown: Dhurandhar 2 vs. Ustaad Bhagat Singh

A major box office clash was initially averted when Yash’s *Toxic* moved its release date. It was slated to clash with *Dhurandhar 2*, starring Ranveer Singh.

However, *Ustaad Bhagat Singh* quickly took *Toxic's* place. This created a regional box office battle, primarily in the Telugu states. Experts suggest the Telugu film may struggle.

Dhurandhar 2's National Impact

Directed by Aditya Dhar, *Dhurandhar 2* is anticipated to be a massive hit nationwide. The first *Dhurandhar* film earned ₹1000 crore in India, despite being a Hindi-only release.

*Dhurandhar 2* will also be released dubbed in Telugu. *Ustaad Bhagat Singh* stars Pawan Kalyan and is a remake of Vijay's *Theri*.

Pawan Kalyan's last film, *OG*, achieved significant success, increasing expectations for *Ustaad Bhagat Singh*.

Early Numbers Favor Dhurandhar 2

*Dhurandhar 2* has already shown strong performance in the Telugu states. Its paid previews earned ₹15 lakh from 96 shows. This equates to roughly 65-70 tickets sold per show.

In the US, *Dhurandhar 2* has grossed over $1 million in pre-sales for its premiere. *Ustaad Bhagat Singh* has earned under $100K.

Can *Dhurandhar 2* outperform *Ustaad Bhagat Singh* in its own territory?

The Ugadi and Gudi Padwa Factor

*Ustaad Bhagat Singh* aims to capitalize on the festive weekend, releasing alongside Ugadi and Gudi Padwa. Eid follows soon after.

Exhibitors are facing pressure to allocate more screens to the local film.

"Pawan Kalyan is a big name and he draws crowds. Distributors want us to give Bhagat Singh more screens, but Dhurandhar 2 is also a big release. So, it’s a challenge,"

says an anonymous exhibitor.

Dhurandhar's Southern Strength

Trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai explains:

"Dhurandhar was huge in the south. And with dubbed versions, Dhurandhar 2 can increase its reach in the region, even if there is competition from a big local release."

The first *Dhurandhar* earned just under ₹200 crore net from the four southern states, without a dubbed version.

Price Hike Risks

Reports suggest *Ustaad Bhagat Singh* makers might increase ticket prices to compete with *Dhurandhar 2*. The trade warns this could backfire.

"Neutral audience and urban viewers could shift to Dhurandhar 2, which is a proven film, if Ustaad Bhagat Singh prices its tickets too high,"

says a trade source.

Both films release on March 19 with paid previews on the evening of March 18.

What to Watch Next

Keep an eye on the opening weekend box office numbers to see which film emerges victorious. Screen allocation and audience reception will be key factors in determining the ultimate success of both *Dhurandhar 2* and *Ustaad Bhagat Singh*.
