New Delhi: Renowned YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was taken into custody by the Delhi Police from his residence in Gurugram's Sector 56 on Saturday. The detention occurred just hours before the scheduled protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.

Rathee, who recently returned to India from Germany, had announced his intention to participate in the demonstration via a video posted on his X account on Friday evening. His presence at the protest, which has triggered significant security measures across the capital, has now become a focal point.

Heightened Security and Preventive Detentions

Sources within the Delhi Police indicated that approximately 50 officers descended upon Rathee's Gurugram home on Saturday morning to carry out the detention. This action follows the Delhi Police's earlier decision to deny permission for the CJP's planned protest, citing security concerns and procedural requirements.

The authorities have intensified preventive detentions and strategically deployed personnel throughout the national capital. The aim is to preemptively stop any protesters from converging at the designated demonstration site. Reports suggest that over 400 individuals have been detained overnight, with numerous train cancellations and metro station closures implemented in anticipation of the event.

CJP Condemns Detention, Demands Release

The detention of Dhruv Rathee drew a swift and strong reaction from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The organization issued a public demand for the “immediate release of Dhruv Rathee”, highlighting their concern over his apprehension ahead of a significant protest.

The CJP has been actively mobilizing its supporters to gather at Jantar Mantar for what they are terming a "mega protest". The scale of anticipated participation has led the Centre to deploy over 20,000 personnel from the police and Central Armed Police Forces to ensure law and order are maintained in Delhi.

Rathee's Return and Digital Influence

Dhruv Rathee, known for his critical stance on the current government, had arrived back in India from Germany earlier this week. He had previously joined a CJP protest in Bengaluru on October 8. His substantial digital footprint, which includes 19.2 million followers on Instagram, 3.3 million on X, and a significant 33 million subscribers on YouTube, underscores his considerable influence among online audiences.

The CJP's protest is reportedly centered against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The substantial security arrangements, including the large deployment of police and paramilitary forces, reflect the perceived significance and potential scale of the demonstration.
